I explained that the best way to exercise (to burn more fat while also make the brain release the most dopamine – the pleasure hormone) is interval training – alternating high intensity with active recovery.
However, if your brain has already associated exercising with discomfort, there is something you can do so start loving to exercise: Afformations.
What are Afformations & How can they help you love exercising
I am sure you have heard about affirmations. It’s a statement of something you want to be true. Repeating affirmations over and over again helps you change the way you think and, thus, make positive things happen in your life. A classic affirmation is “I LOVE TO EXERCISE.” Try it. “I LOVE TO EXERCISE”
What just happened? Did you hear a voice in your head saying “Yeah, right!”? That’s the big problem with affirmations. They really don’t work for most people. Why?
Because of the way the human mind is wired. We don’t accept statements that we don’t believe. Human thought is the process of ASKING and searching for answers to QUESTIONS. Take the affirmation “I LOVE TO EXERCISE” — to which the brain replies “Yeah, right!” and transform it into a question. What would the QUESTION be?
“Why I LOVE TO EXERCISE?” or “Why do I love exercising?” Try it. Ask yourself “Why do I love exercising?”
What’s your brain doing right now? Searching for an answer to the question! It’s by asking questions that you form your reality. And your brain will find a way to love exercising and to do it at least 2-3 times per week.
4 Steps to Creating Afformations That Help You Love Exercising
Step 1: Ask yourself what you want — and write it down. Here’s an example: “I want to love exercising so that I will exercise almost daily.”
This can work for any aspect of your life. It can help you love vegetables, perform better at your job, make more money, you name it! Just do it!
Step 2: Form a QUESTION that assumes that what you want is already true. Here’s an example: “Why do I love exercising so much that every morning when I wake up I feel like doing a workout?” or ” Why do I love exercising so much?”
Step 3: Give yourself to the question. Read or speak the afformations to yourself while sitting in front of the mirror.
So, Create 2-3 afformations to help your brain love exercising, and speak them in front of the mirror twice per day, in the morning and in the night, before going to bed. You don’t have to be loud and you can even say them while you are doing your make-up or cleaning your face.
Believe me, you will need to do a workout, and once this happens, and you will feel pleasure, you are so much closer to becoming a slim woman yourself.
Please, don’t say that you don’t have time to say these afformation or to meditate or that it’s a stupid thing to do. These methods are tested and thousands of women have used it achieve what they want in life, so use them to start loving to exercise and stop overeating.
I recommend you spent at least 3 minutes per day speaking afformations for different aspects of your life, especially for exercising. Because, when you feel like exercising and you do it, you enter a state of mindfulness.
What are the challenges?
Reprograming the brain is not going to be a smooth ride, rather a bumpy one because it entails unlearning the behaviors you are so used to and relearning new ones. It is not going to be very easy because you are habituated to those behaviors, however they have to became a part of the past, and you to learn new ones. Time will be your biggest constraint. We are so used to multitasking and it is hard to give it up so suddenly. After all, you are making the transition from super fast to slow motion. Our culture only gives importance to intellectual pursuits. The non-intellectual pursuits that soothe and calm the mind and restore health are often branded as mindless activities. We are going to have to change the way we think, but it is not easy to do because at our age thinking does become rigid. Also, it is impossible to get rid of all those activities that add only stress to our life and no joy.
Do Away With The Crutches… Get Stepping Stones
There are several aids available to teach you mindful eating. They can really help in the initial stages, but you should not become dependent on them. They might help you temporarily and when they are removed, you relapse back to your old habits. Not progressing is better than relapsing to your old habits because in doing so you are reinforcing the old faulty neural nets. In developing mindfulness, you should consider only those aids that act as stepping stones. They should be series of steps that assist progress and advance your towards your goal. When we are mindful, we are able to recognize a craving (whether due to an awkward social setting, peer pressure, or feelings of inadequacy) and engage in alternative practices instead of helplessly indulging in overeating. So, meditate each day from now on.
